Speak out or stay silent?

Why doesn’t every single Conservative speak out?  Since launching my Sister Patriot venture, I have asked myself this question more than I ever have before.  My ‘political feeings’ vs. ‘what people will think of me’.   The old adage that says ‘you shouldn’t discuss religion or politics in the workplace’.  Maybe back in the day that was more appropriate.  In this day and age, it could be our undoing.  The left has no problem speaking out constantly about their beliefs.  The liberal media is so heavily biased.  Hollywood is biased.  Many people in the limelight who have not a clue in their heads, parrot what the liberal media & the “in crowd” feeds to them.  Millions of fans then hear that & they parrot it as well.  How many liberals have I overheard saying that they get their “news” from The Daily Show?  Yikes.   Not many people think for themselves anymore or really dig for answers.  Not many research, read and consider their sources.  But what about those that do? Do they not speak out because they are afraid?  There is good reason to be afraid today when you express your Conservative views.  The hypocrisy is that the left chants “peace, love & tolerance” unless your opinion isn’t shared by them.  If you have an opposing view, the anger comes out in full force.  The insults, the shunning.  Why is that?  Shouldn’t people be able to discuss their viewpoints rationally and without hatred?  I read the story about Brad Pitt’s mother who wrote a letter to the editor of her Missouri newspaper to express her views on abortion, same-sex marriage & Obama.  She is a Conservative Christian.  Her letter was polite, not offensive or hateful in any way. However, the news media picked up this story and now Mrs Pitt is receiving death threats and frightening backlash from the left.  Understandably, she is no longer speaking out.  Mission accomplished for the bullies.  Weren’t the left the big cheerleaders in the “anti-bullying” movement?  I guess it doesn’t work both ways.

So back to my question.  Why doesn’t every single Conservative speak out?  Fear is certainly one reason.  Worrying that you might lose customers, clients, friends or acquaintances is another.  Maybe fear that you’ll be laughed at and talked about.  All are legitimate concerns.

My thoughts today have been about this issue, especially because of this critical election we’re facing.  We should not be afraid to stand up for what we believe is right.  Whether it’s agreeing with a Conservative opinion online or speaking out at a social event when others are tittering about George Bush and discussing the threats of faux “global warming”.  A simple statement to the contrary is certainly acceptable.  In an effort to get undecided voters to *THINK*.  Recommend a great book or an article.  But by taking a stand and politely stating your views, maybe the person in the crowd who can think for himself will take pause. Maybe he will start doing his own research and learn the true facts.  It’s happened before.

I don’t wish to be laughed at or shunned either.  I don’t wish to be ignored.  I have been.  But, I am really more concerned about what the reality will be on November 7th when the votes have been cast and we are stuck with this regime for another four years.  What that will mean for my family’s future, for our healthcare, for our finances and for our country.  I’d rather take the risk and speak out while I still can.            ~~Sister Patriot
