Yesterday I saw outrage over the hideous Planned Parenthood story. I saw people on social media who usually keep quiet about any “touchy” subjects. They spoke out. Even if it was a small comment or just posting that undercover video, they did their part to educate. One acquaintance who has over 1,000 Facebook friends, posted the undercover PP video. I was pleased to see this as this particular individual never posts anything political. However, last night, I was saddened to see that only one person had commented on the video. One person! Today I’m even more saddened to see that this acquaintance has deleted that post altogether.
This is the problem. We have got to do our small part and speak up. We must. Many people don’t wish to speak as it might affect their business or their popularity. They don’t want to be known as the “crazy political nut”. I gave up caring a long time ago. I have been “defriended” on Facebook by a close family member and recently I discovered another long-time friend has blocked me. (Both people consider themselves “Conservatives”.)
If you’re reading this, you are probably pretty well-informed about what is happening in the world. You care. You search out information daily. You want to know. We have to remember that so many people are incredibly ignorant about current events. Low-information voters, people who just hate politics and ignore it altogether, people who parrot what MSNBC tells them, people who don’t know the name of our Vice President. This is why our country is in such big trouble. Ignorance among many & silence among the rest.
If our freedoms are taken away, it won’t matter if you are the most popular on social media. It won’t matter that you’re invited to that important dinner party or your neighbors admire you. None of it will matter. As far as what you will leave behind for your children… forget it.
At some point people have to stop caring about what others think. Take a stand. Speak up. Speak for those who cannot. Speak for your children & grandchildren who are too young to understand where this country is headed & what that will mean in their adult lives.
You don’t have to be that crazy person with spittle flying, as they scream red-faced in furor. Post a news article. Post a video. Put the information out there & make it accessible to people who don’t go looking for it & won’t ever see it otherwise. Your job is to help keep your friends & acquaintances informed about peril ahead. If your acquaintance were turning down a road that ended in a steep drop-off, would you say anything? Or would you post a selfie on FB? This is the same thing. One of the rights we still have is the ability to speak up (& that right is dangling by a thread). Use it while you still can. ~~Sister Patriot
