We Are Never Too Smart to Learn More

learn-to-listen

I had to consult with someone today. Someone who is extremely brilliant & well-educated. Here is my takeaway from that meeting, for what it’s worth. I don’t care how smart you are or how much formal education you’ve received. If you lose the ability to LISTEN and take in new information, you are stunting your knowledge. It IS possible that there are still some things you do not fully understand. (No matter how minor they may be.) If you approach a person with the attitude that you are far superior to them in intelligence and knowledge, you are cheating yourself out of the opportunity to gain even more knowledge. This person did not know about an issue I was trying to explain, but because of the aforementioned attitude, I was dismissed & talked over. That’s fine, but at that moment, I acknowledged that all of us cheat ourselves of learning more if we don’t listen. Oddly, just before meeting with this person I happened to read something that said, “Ignorance isn’t not knowing, it’s not WANTING to know.” We should always be open to listening & then using our discernment and intelligence to come to an appropriate conclusion for ourselves.  ~~Sister Patriot
